So I'm back from a train ride across county sans laptop and mobile Internet device -- an experience which has to be second-best to riding across country -- and I open the sob mail box and what do I have but a little note from Clutch and Chrome, the I-motomag -- one of them anyway -- with its finger on the pulse of the weird.

And weird this is: It's a helmet designed for the total-hots riding Vespas and being so too-cool.

From Daniel Chang Design, it's a helmet specifically for the ... well, let's like DCD tell it like they see it: "Luxy is an iconic woman’s motorcycle helmet used during commutes and casual motorcycle riding.

"The concept is inspired by Sixties Mod Era and hairstyles to bring an iconic fashion style into current helmets. Since many riders are women, the distinct and unique look give it a competitive edge from existing helmets. It also inspires women to be proud and glamorous riders."

the helmet does provide protection against many falls, but German studies -- see the diagram -- determined where your head falls in the majority of crashes. That means our proud and glamorous riders are risking their chins -- 33. 6 percent of first impacts in a get-off -- their faces (10.2 percent of first-strikes), and, thanks to the cute curl on the left side of the head, an additional 10 percent of first-falls.

So, should our proud and glamorous rider fall, she has a 53.8 percent chance of landing in an ugly way and maybe ending up in an ugly way.

Still, it's an iconic look, the other 46.2 percent of the time. And it is better than nothing and much more fashionable.
