Alcohol possible fatality factor

By rainman Print Preview

Albemarle County police have told The Daily Progress that the Earlysville Road wreck, which killed a motorcyclist and sent a car driver to the hospital via helicopter, may have involved alcohol.

Police have not released the name of the person riding the motorcycle who was killed in yesterday's 2 p.m. crash, but they did confirm that a motorcycle and a motor vehicle collided near the intersection, that one vehicle operator died at the scene and the other was taken the University of Virginia Medical Center via helicopter.

Police declined to release the name of the person killed until that person's family can be notified. They expect more information to be available later today.

Police continue to investigate and a cause of the crash has not been determined, although news reports say preliminary results show the cager went off the road, over-corrected and struck the rider head-on.

Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash or have information to contact them at 296-5807.
