Albemarle County police confirm that a motorist has been killed in a crash on Earlysville Road near Norwood Lane and news reports indicate the victim was riding a motorcycle.
Police confirm that a motorcycle and a motor vehicle collided near the intersection, that one vehicle operator died at the scene and the other was taken the University of Virginia Medical Center via helicopter.
The crash occurred around 2 p.m., police said.
Police declined to release the name of the person killed until that person's family can be notified. They expect more information to be available in the morning.
Police continue to investigate and a cause of the crash has not been determined, although news reports say preliminary results show the cager went off the road, over-corrected and struck the rider head-on.
Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash or have information to contact them at 296-5807.
A morning crash resulted in non life-threatening injuries to two riders, according to police and Waynesboro's The News-Virginian. A rider and passenger from Alabama were hurt on U.S. 250 when they pulled a U-turn in front of a moving van that was following behind them, according to police.
The rider and passenger are identified as Randal Campbell and his wife, Stacia. The two were on a 2008 Harley-Davidson and were underneath the Blue Ridge Parkway bridge when they pulled to the shoulder to make a U-turn, police said.
The moving van, a rental truck, struck them broadside when the bike turned in front of it.
