Tony Williamson, long-time ride captain for Arlington National Cemetery missions of the Patriot Guard Riders, died in a motorcycle crash Sunday, according to Virginia Patriot Guard Riders officials.
Mr. Williamson had attended a bike event in Frederick, Maryland and was on his way home when he apparently lost control and hit a guard rail, officials said. No more details available.
PGR is a diverse group of riders with groups across the nation that escort fallen heros and families to "show our sincere respect" and "shield the mourning family and their friends from interruptions created by any protestor or group of protestors. We accomplish the latter through strictly legal and non-violent means."
The group has no political affiliation, no club affiliation and no manufacturer affiliation. It's riders who show up to support families during times of grief.
It's members have escorted National Guard and regular troops back from deployment and escorted funerals for veterans of other wars. "Tony was a true patriot and staunchly committed member of PGR," said Jim "Borlo" Borling, state captain for Virginia's PGR. "He was an important part of the ANC Team and he will be sadly missed. Please hold the family and friends in your prayers during this most difficult time. We anticipate that information about arrangements for Tony will be posted on the national website in a 'confirmed mission' thread. "
Mr. Williamson led and organized many of the PGR missions to Arlington National Cemetery to escort and honor fallen troops.

What a loss to a great organization and to America. He will be remembered for what he did by all of the soldiers' families who he stood for over the years.
