Five riders and a support crew are stopping in Charlottesville Thursday for a coffee break as they ride their way from shining to frozen sea, and local SOBs are invited to drop by to say hi
The quintet of riders is completing a dream held by the late Lance Vaccaro, a U.S. Navy SEAL who died in a paratrooping training accident in 2008. They're raising money for the SEAL-Navy Special Warfare Foundation, which supports the families of SEALs.
"Five motorcyclists and a support team will ride from Virginia Beach to Seward, Alaska and back, with scheduled stops in large cities and small towns across America," said Scott Mactavish, a Navy vet, filmmaker and a local resident who's an organizer and volunteer flak for the Lance Vaccaro Memorial Ride.
"The riders will meet with fellow veterans, Blue Star and Gold Star families, and the friends and family of fallen troops, to share stories and ensure America’s heroes are never forgotten," Mr. Mactavish said of the cross-country, coast-to-coast ride. "Team Lance is stopping at Liberty Pantops between noon and 2 pm this Thursday to shake hands and speak with the locals."
Official gear, including shirts, hats, coins and the like, are being sold as the riders roll to help benefit the foundation, Mr. Mactavish noted.
