BRP, the parent company behind the Can-Am Spyder, has issued a recall on the radical three-wheelers due to a problem with the Spyders that have an paddle-shifter and automatic clutch.
Virginia Powersports in Ruckersville is the local Can-Am dealer.
According to the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration's official recall notice, the problem is with Spyders equipped with semi-automatic transmissions. Seems that the clutch may stay engaged when the Spyder is brought to a complete stop. That creates a stall in the bike and, once stalled, it may not start again because the clutch is still engaged.
Having an engaged clutch means the rear wheel won't turn which means you can't push the dang thing off the roadway which means you could get slammed in the rear end.
Can-Am is notifying owners.
