Doing a little, playing a couple of hands and let the dogs out May 15 during the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA’s Cruise for Critters, sponsored jointly by the local Street Thunder Cats MC.
The poker-run style ride is intended to raise funds and awareness for the animals of the SPCA, and it is open to all brands of motorcycles, said SPCA's annual giving manager, Chris Roberson.
“The motorcycle community in our area has always been strong and supportive when it comes to causes like the SPCA. This is a good opportunity to highlight the animals at the SPCA and the generosity of motorcyclists who share our roads,” said the Harley-riding Mr. Roberson.
Susanne Kogut, SPCA executive director, said local SOBs have big hearts.
“We have a lot of motorcyclists who enjoy riding the beautiful roads in our area, and they also happen to have really big hearts and show great care for the animals at the SPCA,” Ms. Kogut said.
Riders will make several stops during the ride, at which they will draw cards for a poker hand. The best hands win a prize package including an iPod from Crutchfield, a two-night hotel stay courtesy of Courtyard by Marriott on The Corner, a free one-month membership to Fastway Fitness, and other prizes donated by local businesses.
SOBs will meet in the southeast parking lot behind Charlottesville Fashion Square Mall between 8 and 9 a.m. to register. A complimentary breakfast courtesy of Chick-fil-A will be served. Around 9:30, bikers will begin departing on a scenic route that includes stops at The Batesville Store, Dogwood Restaurant, and Jarman’s Sportcycles. The ride concludes at McGrady’s Irish Pub in Charlottesville, where prizes will be awarded.
Local businesses Crutchfield and Cavalier Produce are key sponsors of the event who have been supporters of the SPCA for many years.
The Cruise for Critters rain date is Sunday, May 16th.
The mission of the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for the lost, abandoned, and homeless animals and adopt many into permanent homes. The agency tries to set a standard of excellence and leadership in shelter animal care, humane education, and progressive animal welfare programs.
