Girls just wanna have fun, and ride

Women all over the world just want to have fun and ride a few miles on their own and, come Friday, they're doing it for themselves all over the world.

Some little whipper-snapper dropped a dime on the international event, an event which almost went unnoticed. The International Female Ride Day is this Friday and some folks are looking at a 3 p.m. ride out of Downtown and along the parkway.

Nothing crazy, nothing stupid, just a great ride for a great cause: The pure fun, joy and hell of it.

"Women around the world, in all places, participate by just getting out on their motorcycle," or so says the Web site, www.motoress.com. "It's as simple as riding to work."

The idea is to show women riding in numbers. That will call attention to the needs of women riders for manufacturers, designers and other riders.

We all need to get out there to show the numbers of women who ride," the site said. "Many clubs organize rides, numerous women riders simply meet up with their friends; it can be for an hour, it can be for an afternoon. There are city kick-offs, events, rally's, fundraisers and then there are women who just prefer to take a ride alone. Its everywhere YOU are!"
