There are plenty of good roads to run on this Earth, so cover your bases, watch your backs and your fronts and ride alive.
That may mean slowing it down from 120 mph when you're cruising on the Blue Ridge Parkway, by the way!
There's a reason for the warning: According to the Virginia State Police facebook page -- what kind of fool, you may be wondering, would friend the state police? -- six state SOBs have died in less than two weeks.
"Within the past 11 days, six motorcyclists have lost their lives in traffic crashes on Virginia’s highways," the state bull site warns. "The number of motorcycles on the roads traditionally increases in the spring months. "
Colonel W. Steven Flaherty, Virginia State Police Superintendent, said it's a weather thing.
“As the spring weather entices more people to take to the roads to enjoy the warm temperatures and scenery, we remind everyone to be more aware of other motorists,” he said. “It’s easy to become distracted when enjoying the views Virginia has to offer this time of year. However, the driver’s primary focus must be on the road in order to keep our highways as safe as possible for everyone’s sake.”
There's a lot of us out there and too damn many drivers with cell phones and texts going on -- I know because I've seen 'em doing it, not that I ever would -- and they're not watching you. Pay attention. Ride safe. And, if you're going to misbehave, plan it out well to avoid causing yourself or anyone else pain.
Work to ride, ride to work!
