Who would have thought that that gray, dark, hard, cold slab of concrete and bituminous overlay would be a sight that eyes sore from blaring, blazing white snow would be so glad to see?
It's driving me crazy, a location most people will say is at the end of my driveway. I may not have the need for speed but I have the drive to ride.
Luckily, other people have the same issue and, even as we shovel out the upcoming inches, they're putting together the next spring/summer/fall schedule of riding classes, from beginners learning "Mr. Clutch" to more advanced courses where you can put your ride through basic safety maneuvers.
There are three schools in the area, all approved by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and the Virginia Rider Training Program, which oversees the state's training facilities, including the Open Doors program at Albemarle High School, the Harley-Davidson-designed Rider's Edge Academy at Shenandoah Harley-Davidson, and the Central Virginia Motorcycle School at Piedmont Power Sports, the Honda dealer in Orange.
As soon as the schedules are complete, we'll have a round up of the programs and special offerings and links to Web sites.
Sign up early, ride often.
Now where's my freakin' shovel?
